With a Linpack performance of 93 petaflops, China's TaihuLight is far and away the most powerful number-cruncher on the planet. "It’s not based on an existing architecture. They built it themselves," Jack Dongarra, a professor at the University of Tennessee and creator of the measurement system used to rank the world's supercomputers, told Bloomberg. "This is a system that has Chinese processors."
US National Security Agency Report : China's previous supercomputers were "unimpressive except for running benchmarks", the TaihuLight light was "not a stunt", the report's authors said. It was notable for being the first system entirely controlled by China in terms of hardware and software.
